Dear Steve ... it's Allie
Saturday, October 24
6:30pm - 8:30pm
Main Library, Theater
Canyon TheaterThrough music and storytelling, Allie explores family, memory, identity, and her journey as a trans artist and composer. Q&A to follow performance.
In a performance that is both traditional and high tech, Allie plays piano and mountain dulcimer, weaving together archival recordings, electronics, and symphonic samples as she sings, tells stories, and talks to her younger self, Steve. Through these conversations, she reflects on the heartland boy and devoted father she once watched from a distance and the life she now lives as a trans composer and artist.
When Allie’s evangelical cousin invites her to return to her hometown and attend church with him, she takes the opportunity to talk to Steve during the long drive back to his boyhood home. Together, they explore the things he was unable to see at the time and the unseen forces that have shaped them both.
This event is organized by a community partner and hosted by the Boulder Public Library.
